My Most Anticipated Albums of 2024

2024 has arrived. As the new year brings about resolutions of change, the certainty of a host of new music will help navigate the peaks and valleys that are ahead.

Check out my most anticipated albums of 2024 below.

The Internet, TBD

The Internet recently shared studio pictures on Instagram, which hinted at the R&B band readying their fifth and final studio album.

The group’s lead vocalist, Syd, revealed they would be splitting up following their upcoming album. “The next Internet album will also be our last,” she said in a 2022 interview with NME. “I have no idea what’s next. I don’t know. Maybe we’ll create an Internet label. We talked about that – just signing ourselves.”

JAY ROCK, eASTSIDE JOHNNY

It’s been five years since Jay Rock released his latest album, “Redemption” and he’s very much aware of it. The TDE rapper spoke with Bootleg Kev during BET Weekend last year to provide insight on the delay of a follow-up album. “The new album is great, man,” he said. “Everybody’s like, ‘Man what’s taking so long? It’s been five years!’ All the fans been beating me up and stuff on Instagram but it’s just about trying to make good quality music. Like I said, I’m tryna do an album like my last one where you ain’t gotta skip shit. No skips.”

He continued: “I’m just tryna do an album like that and, you know. People know who I am, man. It’s Jay Rock. I could rap circles around a lot of people but, you know.” Hopefully, Eastside Johnny’s long-awaited album will see a 2024 release.

Usher, coming home

Announced as the headliner of the 2024 Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show, Usher’s 9th studio album, “Coming Home” will coincide with the hotly anticipated performance. Leading with “Good Good,” the 21 Savage and Summer Walker-assisted single became Usher’s first top 30 hit in nearly a decade. The R&B superstar also joined forces with H.E.R. for their new collaboration, “Risk It All,” which appears on The Color Purple’s soundtrack alongside his forthcoming effort. If the two songs are any indication of what to expect on his new album, Usher could potentially have another R&B classic on his hands.

Teyana Taylor, TBD

In December of 2020, Teyana Taylor expressed discontentment with her record label, Def Jam and desires to retire from music during an Instagram Live session. The Harlem-bred songstress received compassion from the likes of Cardi B and the legendary Janet Jackson. While stepping back from the music industry, Taylor has worked as a creative director for multiple artists and received critical acclaim for her film, “A Thousand And One.”

Three years following her retirement announcement, Taylor appears to finally have a change of heart. Taking to her Instagram Story on Wednesday, the “Gonna Love Me” singer previewed a new song that is sure to whet your appetite.

Brandy, tbd

While Brandy did release her first holiday album, “Christmas With Brandy” in November, it’s been nearly four years since a non-holiday effort from the Vocal Bible. During an interview with Billboard in December, Brandy shared that she was ready to begin work on the follow-up to 2020’s “b7.” “I would love to start working on B8, that’s in the plan for sure,” she said. Following the independent project “b7,” Brandy has since signed to Motown Records, which marked her first major label deal in over a decade.
